Why Join The District?

Districts and fellowships in LCMC are designed for the intention of connecting and encouraging congregations and pastors. The question then, for both congregations and pastors, becomes, “why should I belong to this particular district?” While we cannot speak for the other districts of our association, we can say with certainty that what the Augustana District values, above all, is “handing over the goods.” This phrase refers to the work of the preacher in proclaiming the Gospel to sinners, which is the good news of God’s forgiveness and new life in Christ. In turn, this is what we aim to do through every event, resource, and publication of the Augustana District. By living out our three main commitments of theology, church, and missions we believe that confessional theology drives the church into the world as proclaimers of the good news of Jesus, domestically and internationally. For this reason, we are immersed as a district in the Catechisms, the Scriptures, and the proclamation of the Gospel, which call the dead to life.

What does this mean for you? The Augustana District offers a wide variety of programs and events to support you and your congregation, including: an annual theological convocation, first call pastors retreat, confirmation retreat, high school retreat, and women’s conference, along with conflict response resources, call committee coaching, and church council retreats. At any of these gatherings you can anticipate to interact with Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, hear a proclamation of God’s gracious forgiveness, and fellowship with a community of broken sinners redeemed by Christ.

How To Join The District

Become A Member Congregation

The Augustana District is an association of congregations belonging to Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). LCMC churches wishing to join Augustana may do so with a majority vote of their Church Council, by way of adopting a resolution expressing their desire to join and their subscription to Augustana’s constitution, bylaws, and Statement of Faith. Such a resolution should be signed by the president and/or pastor of the congregation and mailed to the Augustana District offices (335 Main St S, Hutchinson, MN. 55350). Upon approval by the District Council, such congregations are entitled to all the rights and privileges of the Augustana District. Contact us for more information.

Associate Membership

Become An Associate Member

Congregations which have not yet taken a formal congregational vote to join LCMC but wish to share in the mission and fellowship of the Augustana District may do so by becoming an Associate Member Congregation. Taking this step does not result in so-called ‘dual-affiliation’, but associates your church in a way that connects it to the purpose and benefits of Augustana without [yet] severing ties from its current denomination. This is similar to joining a Bible Camp association or a mission society. The process is the same as above, by a majority vote of the Church Council, and a signed subscription to Augustana’s constitution, bylaws, and Statement of Faith (send to Augustana District 335 Main St S Hutchinson, MN 55350). Associate Member Congregations have “voice but not vote” at district conventions. Individuals of Associate Member Congregations may fully participate in the boards, committees, and programs of the district. Contact us for more information.

Become An Individual Member

The Augustana District is an association of congregations. However, we recognize that there may be individuals who wish to associate with us even if their home congregation does not. We welcome such people as “Associate Individual Members,” both clergy and laity alike. Please send a letter to the district (335 Main St S. Hutchinson MN 55350, requesting such status, and stating your subscription to our constitution, bylaws, and Statement of Faith. Associate Individual Members have “voice but not vote” at district conventions, and otherwise may fully participate in the boards, committees and programs of the district. Contact us for more information.
